Seventh Day Slumber

Seventh Day Slumber is a Christian rock band who got their start in 1996. They started their journey as an independent artist for five years, sharing the message of the gospel to all who would listen. After Joseph Rojas's, the lead singer for Seventh Day Slumber, father left him and his mother at the age of 3, Rojas went into a deep state of depression and started to become addicted to crack, cocaine (400$ a day addiction), and other drugs. He was soon selling drugs himself on the streets and taking part in other various felonies and crimes. He was admitted to various rehab centers and hospitals, but when all of them failed he gave up, quitting all together. Rojas was planning to commit suicide and overdose on cocaine to stop his heart, but he wasn't expecting his mother to be the one to find him. He was rescued by paramedics and was later quoted as saying that the flashing lights from the ambulance made him truly see God, and inspired him to change his ways. He started slowing cutting back on his drugs and drinking, and eventually was able to quit them all together through the help of family, rehabs, and prayer. Once he was clean, he decided to go to college, which is where he found his passion for music and where he met his current band members. The reason why he wanted to write music was because, "I wanted to give something back to God after all he's done for me.

Seventh Day Slumber's lyrics mostly focus on issues that teenagers face, such as suicide, drugs, home abuse, drinking, sex, etc. For example the meaning for the album "Finally Awake" was quoted by the band as "The message of this album is clear. We want to empower kids to stop looking to the media, to what the world tells them they have to be, to find identity. You don’t have to be what everyone else tells you to be what you were created to be." One song (Caroline) is about Rojas's mother in law, she went through hard times after a divorce. The song is sung from the point of view of God.

The band members are;
Joseph Rojas--Vocals/Guitar
Joshua Schwartz--Bass

Epica

Epica is a Dutch gothic metal band with elements of epic film scores and choral arrangements, formed in 2003 by Mark Jansen after he left his former band, After Forever, due to creative differences. Mark got in contact with Ad Sluijter, who he had worked with on some projects in the past, and they formed a new band called Sahara Dust, with Helena Michaelson of Trail of Tears as its lead vocalist. She was soon replaced, however, by Jansen's girlfriend, Simone Simons, who was 18 years old at the time. The band then held auditions for the remaining members, and got bassist Yves Huts, drummer Jeroen Simons, and keyboard player Coen Janssen joining them. Sahara Dust soon became Epica, named after the Kamelot album of the same name, of which the band are big fans of.

Their first album, 'The Phantom Agony', was released later that year, featuring a choir and strings orchestra. It was a surprisingly accomplished album, considering the band had been together for only a few months.

In 2005 the release of two Epica albums came out. First, 'Consign to Oblivion' and then later that year, 'The Score: An Epic Journey'. The former being the follow-up to The Phantom Agony, the latter being the score to Dutch movie Joyride.

Last but not least Epica released their newest album The Divine Conspiracy in 2007.

In 2008, they released Chasing the dragon Single.

Simone Simons (Vocals)
Mark Jansen (Guitars, grunts & screams)

Death

Death was one of the frist death metal bands. Formed in 1983 by Guitarst and Vocalist Chuck Schuldiner under the original name of Mantas in Orlando. Death was widely known. Chuck Schuldiner with Kam Lee and Rick Rozz started to compose songs that were released on several rehearsal tapes in 1984. These tapes, along with the Death by Metal demo, circulated through the tape trader world, quickly establishing the band's name. Chuck Schuldiner dissolved Mantas and quickly started a new band under called Death. It still had the same members, Rick Rozz and Kam Lee. Another demo was released, called Reign of Terror.

In 1985, after the Infernal Death tape was recorded and released, Schuldiner fired Lee and Rozz in favour of Repulsion's bassist and guitarist, Scott Carlson and Matt Olivio. However, a drummer could not be found; so the band ended again. Schuldiner moved to San Francisco and recruited drummer Eric Brecht, but he was not happy with this incarnation of Death and moved back to Florida without a band. There, in 1986, Chuck Schuldiner got an invitation from early Canadian thrash band Slaughter to play on their album, which he accepted, moving to Canada. This only lasted two weeks

Chuck returned to Florida, then moved quickly to San Francisco again, where he joined with Chris Reifert. They recorded the Mutilation demo.

Scream Bloody Gore was released in 1987. Schuldiner briefly had a second guitar player, John Hand, but Hand did not appear on the album. By this time Schuldiner moved back to Florida, leaving Chris. There, Schuldiner teamed up with former bandmate Rick Rozz and two members of Rozz's band Massacre, Terry Butler and Bill Andrews.

In 1988, Leprosy was recorded. After much touring in support of the album, including a quick and ill-planned tour of Europe, Rick Rozz was fired in 1989. After a tour of Mexico featuring guitarist Paul Masvidal, a replacement was found in James Murphy, with whom the third album Spiritual Healing was recorded in the summer of 1989.

Schuldiner hired Steve DiGiorgio and recruited Sean Reinert and Paul Masvidal from underground Florida band Cynic. In 1993, Reinert and Masvidal left the group to continue with Cynic, Schuldiner being unable to persuade them otherwise. Schuldiner replaced them with drummer Gene Hoglan of the recently dissolved thrash metal band Dark Angel, and worked with guitarist Andy LaRocque from King Diamond for Individual Thought Patterns.

As Schuldiner finished Control Denied's debut album, he was diagnosed with brain cancer, forcing the band to scrap plans for a US and Canadian tour. As he worked on the second release, Schuldiner's condition improved, but the tumor left him in a weakened, vulnerable state. He contracted pneumonia and was placed in the hospital. On December 13, 2001, Schuldiner was released and returned home where, one hour later, he died.

Secondhand Serenade

Secondhand Serenade is a solo project with vocalist and guitarist John Vesely. He began in Illinois, USA, in 2004. He has released two studio albums to date under the name Secondhand Serenade, "Awake" in 2007 and "A Twist in My Story" in 2008. He is from a very musical family, his father was a professional jazz musician.

Secondhand Serenade got its name because his songs are 'serenades' sung to his wife. People around the world are merely getting to hear the songs 'second-hand'.

Lamb Of God!

Burn the Priest/ Lamb of God is a Thrash/Speed/Death Metal band. In 1990, Mark Morton, Chris Adler and John Campbell started the band Burn the Priest. The band members knew each other from University, in Richmond, Virginia that they each attended. Mark left the band soon after to pursue a master's degree in Chicago. Chris and John replaced Mark with Abe Spear. For the next five years, the band practiced in Chris's house. In 1995, the band released its self-titled first demo. After the demo, Burn the Priest recorded two split albums "with Agents of Satan" and "ZED respectively". After the band's first three demos, Burn the Priest added vocalist Randy Blythe to the band.

In 1997, Mark returned to the band. That following year, the band released its first full-length self-titled album, "Burn the Priest", through Legion Records. Then Abe Spear left the band, leaving an open position for a guitarist. Chris's brother, Willie Adler, became the band's second guitarist a year later, and a deal with Prosthetic Records was signed. After being banned from playing in certain places (some people believed the band possessed an "evil" name), Burn the Priest changed their name to Lamb of God.

Introduction!

There is so much fight between metalheads and emos. According to the title you may think this blog is about Metal VS Emo... which one is better... but honestly its not what you think. I enjoy both Genres! I think there both great. I know that they contradict each other but that doesn't matter. So this blog is kind of personal. It is based on my tastes in music. The music/bands I listen to. This blog is mostly going to be about BOTH genres there differences and similarities. For those who think metal and emo are the same... you are sadly mistaken. They are completely different with only a few similarities and this blog will explain it to you. Also on this blog, there will be information on my favorite bands! Members, Albums, etc. So for you metalheads and emos... this is a place for connection not argument so if you are going to fight just leave now.

Both of these Genres have so many different things that speaks or Jumps out at me. For metal its the wicked guitar and growling.... Emo.. its the lyrics and Screaming.
